MINNEAPOLIS — General Mills has eliminated artificial colors in all of its cereals and plans to get rid of artificial dyes on all their U.S. products by the end of 2027.
On August 26, General Mills announced that all of its cereals are now made without synthetic color additives. This comes weeks after WK Kellogg Co announced they were ahead of schedule in removing the artificial colors from their cereals.
This milestone comes after the company announced in March the removal of these colors from cereals supplied to K-12 schools.
“As the leader in cereal, General Mills is focused on giving people what they are looking for from the brands they know and love,” said Bethany Quam, president of Big G Cereal at General Mills. “This achievement reflects how we are evolving with consumer needs while continuing to offer food that tastes great, delivers quality and provides value.”The company stated that this achievement is part of a broader plan to remove certified colors from its full U.S. retail portfolio by the end of 2027. According to General Mills, 90% of its U.S. retail portfolio has completed this transition so far.

According to General Mills, all U.S. cereals shipped to retailers are now manufactured without certified colors. Consumers looking at ingredient panels on General Mills cereals will no longer see certified synthetic color additives listed.
The company stated that the updated cereal formulations were designed to meet consumer preferences while continuing to offer products that deliver quality, taste, and value. General Mills did not announce any specific price changes alongside this announcement.
If you purchase General Mills products beyond the cereal aisle, such as fruit snacks or baking products, those items remain in transition as part of the company's 2027 timeline.
